Work Arrangement Tailor-Made for Mother & Daughters

The client list at Nelda's Tailors is impressive, but no more so than the cherished relationship that self-taught Nelda Cisneros has with her co-owners and daughters, Anita Landeros and Gladys Venegas. Cisneros, a native Austinite and the oldest of 14 children, sewed for neighbors, friends, and family before opening a downtown shop in 1979. Nelda started with only one employee and four sewing machines. After one year of business, her daughter Anita joined her in the business venture. It wasn't until 1985 that Gladys left her job with the City of Austin to lend her sister and mother a helping hand. With the increased success of the family business, Nelda's husband, Julian Cisneros, soon became involved in the thriving alterations business.

Today, Nelda's Tailors has 11 employees and two shops located in Austin & Pflugerville. The mother / daughters team attributes their seamless working relationship to respecting one another, even if they disagree.

''Mom is a great teacher, a good boss and an awesome tailor," says Gladys. But when a final decision has to be made, "they know that I'm in charge," says Nelda. In this family environment, you cannot beat the working conditions, where even children and grandchildren are welcomed. The best thing about being in business with your family is enjoying going to work everyday! It's a blessing to work together toward the same expertise goal. Our family is committed to providing expert repairs and alterations to every single customer.
